This is a bit unorthodox. I'm currently trying to get running a 1944 Ford 49T that has a 350 small block out of a 72 Camaro. I'm having distributor issues, where the timing was 180⁰ out. I had spark, but i was getting backfires through the carburetor. This leads me to believe the intake valve is open during the compression stroke. I brought the engine to TDC on the compression stroke of cylinder number one, pulled the distributor and lined the rotor back up where number one plug wire is on the cap, replaced the cap AND rotor, I still have no spark. I'm just about to go to HEI at this point because those points are so difficult to set. I tried using a dwell meter on the old distributor, but i cant get any readings past 4⁰. Can somebody help?
