I could use some help!! I want to replace my fiber cam gear with the aluminum one on my 1959 235 cu in chevy engine. All the online parts listings show models covered up to 1958 and then for 1960 but no 1959. Was there a change in the crank gear or some other issue that causes the 1959 to be unlisted. Sure would like to know how I can get the right part. I called parts geek and they couldn't help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
It's been a long time but I recall them all being interchangeable . The main thing is : the gear *must* be heated before it is pressed / knocked onto the end of the cam shaft . Also : be very sure to buy both gears from the same manufacturer else you run the very real risk if getting a fairly loud whine from sligtly different tooth pitch . Hey Nate, Long time no hear! To much facebook groups these days. Thanks for the info, Seems like everyone is out of stock no matter where you look. It doesn't matter now anyways as I decided to go with the cam and fiber gear that's already installed instead of replacing with the hyd cam I was going to go with. Now I need a good set of solid lifters and a rocker arm assy for 59 235. I have an earlier rocker arm assy but my research indicates it would not oil right due to the oil groove in the rockers not being offset like the 59. Live and learn !!
Yeah ; I said early in 1025 that I think this might be my swan song year and boy howdy is it . I've not been able to touch my tools / ride a Motocycle since August . There's no way in hell I'd run a fiber cam gear, Rock Auto had at least one .
I feel for you. Same here, lost a kidney and skin cancer this year. Got to get these projects done and just go fishing! Ok, I'll change the gear.
Don't feel bad for me, I've had a tumultuous life and the old men tried so hard to earn me, they're all gone now and I'm the old man . This morning I walked to my back yard and looked at my ailing Motocycle whilst playing with and feeding / watering my dogs, I hope to get back to it Friday and maybe even ride it Saturday . I miss my '49 and the '69 I bought to replace it then got ripped off by a restoration shop . I'm told the guy who bought it is floating in the clouds to get a well equipped rust free and freshly painted 6 cylinder rig, I had to replace the entire cab and chose a A/C one then hnted down all the various Harrison factory AC bits, I was going to use a modern SANDEN compressor . life goes on, I'm still here and beginning to pick up my tools again
