Hello, Working on SB 350cid 1978 Chevrolet engine. I want to know if I'm exactly on "Top Dead Center". I've cranked the no.1 cylinder and I know that I'm on the compression stroke. When the pointer (or line) on the vibration damper lines up exactly with the '0' mark on the timing scale that is on the timing cover- Does that always mean that I'm right on TDC? Is that an accurate indication? (assuming that timing chain is right on.) Thank you for the information.
Hello, Yes, that is as close as you can get without using a dial indicator with the head off. The timing marks start a "0"(TDC). Glad to help, BRANT
