[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-05-06 AT 09:36 AM (CST)]I'm starting a 79 C-10 4x4 restoration. This truck has been sitting for 5 years. Has a bad rear which had the differential cover off for 5 years and was exposed to the elements. The pinion gear broke off and is jammed solid into the ring gear. Rear wheels wouldn't even turn and everything inside appears rusted. I'm starting on the engine; drained oil, removed spark plugs and sprayed WD40 in the plug holes and was able to turn the motor by hand. I'll be siphoning the 20+ gallons of gas from the dual tanks tonight (if I can find somewhere to store 20 gallons of bad gas!!) I've removed the radiator and fluid also. When removing the radiator I noticed there was two of the four rubber pads that holds the radiator in place. The radiator exterior looks good but was about half full. The top half of the inside of the radiator has visible deposits. Most of the cleaners I found at the local stores requiring running the engine or driving. I can't do that yet. Any suggestions on cleaning the radiator outside of the truck? I'm looking for help with this: 1. Rubber pads(?) that are placed at the four corners of the radiator. 2. A complete rear end, preferably with 308 gears. 3. Cleaning inside radiator out of the truck. Thanks! (ChevyDuty, thanks for forum, and we'll talking to you alot shortly!) :7
hello, I recently found a brand new (not rebuilt) rear axle at a place called www.colemans.com they are military surplus they are brand new in crates with address labels from pontiac michigan.. gm plant.. they are limited slip 3.08 gears... I bought a set. front and back for my 76 blazer.. they work great.. when I bought them they were $395 and axle, but I think that they got smart and raised the rear price to $495.. considering this is a factory new unused part, it is still a smoking deal.. I paid about $1300 for both axles and to have it shipped out here to Phoenix.. You might want to check them out.. if the website did not print properly, email me at eugenecowen@hotmail.com for info.. 750201 Rear Axle Assembly, Chevy/GMC, U.S.G.I.
any reason you want 308's? why not 373's? IMO they are a better all around gear but that's just my opinion.. depends on what you are going to do with the truck.;-)
