I have a 1976 chevy stepside with a 203np transfercase. I would like to convert it to part time 4 wheel drive, I have found a shaft conversion from milemarker that I was considering but alot of people tell me that it is easier to put a 205 transfer case in the truck. Is this true?
In my opinion I would stick with the 203 transfercase, UNLESS, you really know what you are doing. You need to make sure that the output shaft will match both transfer cases and and the bolt pattern is the same. I know from experience. I ended up buying a 203, 205 and 208 before I finally found a tranny/ xfercase to match. I was swapping from auto to manual so I was also looking for a tranny too. I ended up going with the 208 because that was the only tranny/ xfercase combo that fit any of the bolt patterns. I was origially going to convert the 203 but it wouldn't fit the tranny. With the part time conversion it will give you 4 wheel low and 2 wheel low along with 4 high,nuetral,and 2 high. Just my .02 cents.
Hi, If you have any mechanical skills or a good book, I'd go with the conversion kit. Going to the NP205 will mean new ends on your driveshafts, possibly even lengthening or shortening them. Vince
stick with 203 the conversion kit is pretty simple to install and likethe other guy said you will have 2 hi 4hi 2 low and 4 low
