How do you replace the drivers/passenger door vent window seals?

I've got a 1986 GMC with vent windows that are in need of replacing. Any tips/hints anyone can suggest?

    Thanks.

RE: Replacing door vent window seal

Just did this on our '83 C10. It was not an easy job. After removing the vent window form the door you will have to remove the glass from the frame. This means removing the tension adjusting nut from the bottom. The threaded rod will break very easily. We had to rethread ours & grind the spring down. Then you must remove the rivet near the top of the window. Once the window is out you must remove the piece of the frame that attatches to the long straight piece by removing a few more rivets.

Putting the new seal on the straight piece is easy. Little metal tabs & weatherstrip adhesive. The curved piece is much harder. We used a hammer & punch to work it into the channel. Now you have to reassemble the frame. We could not get the new rivets to work properly so we used little tiny nuts & bolts. Same for reattatching the window to the frame. Stainless steel with a locknut & nylon washer for the upper hinge.

Putting the window back in the door is fun. The only way we could get everything to line up was to take the rollers off the main window & put them back on after the vent window was back in. You can do this if the crank handle thingy is detatched from the door. But that was pretty tough too. Gotta be careful not to let things hit the window & possibly break it while your doing this. Probably easy if you know the right way.

We managed to get it done. But I would not attempt this job without a helper & plenty of time.
