loose steering column

    [updated:LAST EDITED ON Sep-11-05 AT 10:03 AM (CST)]i have an 1982 ck30 1 tin dually yes it sucks gas bad with a 454 lol but anyway when i bought it the steering column was loose it does have tilt but i pulled the steering wheel off and the snap ring on the shaft just above the spring was gone i bought one and installed it and steering wheel was tight now its loosend up again i havent checked if the snap ring popped off yet but what else could it be if just putting the snap rin gin it made it go away. any info would help

    p.s any one looking to swap a 454 with a better mpg motor? hooke me up lol

    There are 4 bolts way down inside the coloumn that are loose, your best bet is to get a book on 73 - 87 chevys and look at the steering section. Have a good memory or take pictures of how everything goes together, and good luck. Oh yeah you will need to buy a lockplate remover. If you do get it done remember, that those bolts loosen when you use the steeringwheel as a handle to get in your truck.
