Does your current need to be in pretty decent condition to use one of these covers? How do they attach? Are they glued on?

They attach with velcro strips that are glued onto the dash. If the front of your dash is in good shape (from just above the trim plate and down) but say you have a few cracks showing on top, then a dash mat will help.
