I have a 85 scotsdale k10 with a 305 engine and a np208 transfer case. I am not sure what my trans is but was wondering how hard a 350 would be to put in. would i need to change out the transfer case or any other parts. the 305 isnt cutting it for me. thanks for any help
I don't know a whole lot about the K-Series, but I know that a 305 to a 350 is a VERY common swap. Many people do it, and it should work just fine. http://my85silverado.tripod.com/
If your engine is original, its a very easy swap to a Goodwrench 350 (about 240 HP) or a GM Performance Products 350 (290 HP). These are two-piece rear main seal blocks and should allow a direct swap of everything from your 305. The Goodwrench 350 (about $1300) and GM PP 350 (about $1650) are available from any GM dealer. The Goodwrench engine has a 3 year warranty and the PP engine has a one year GM warranty. They are brand new "Heco en Mexico" engines. The engines come as a long block with "tin" (oil pan and valve cover). Its hard to find a good rebuilt 350 for the price of these new engines. Bruce
