engine for 78 cheyenne

  1. I just bought a 1978 chevy cheyenne no one seems to know what engine i have 305 or 350. does anyone know which is standard for this model.

    I believe the 305 came standard in these but, of course, the 350 is also common but was considered an option and not a standard feature. I think the best way to tell is through the VIN if you can find out how that is laid out. I'm not well versed on the VIN myself but I'd think any Chevy dealer could decode it for you.

    see tread two before title how many horses. The post by zip has a link for engine sizes compared to RPO number. RPO numbers are listed on stickers on glove box. It will tell you what size engine and how much horsepower it has.

    look at the vin, the first 3 letters for example C=division C=chassis type Y= engine family if your 3rd letter is a U it came with a 305 if it is a L it came with a 350
