6 or 12 volt

    I GOT A 59 GMC THE HEADLIGHTS TAIL LIGHTS SAY 12 VOLT BUT WHEN I CONNECT THE BATTERY THE COIL GETS HOT ITS BEEN MANY YEARS SINCE I TOUCHED ONE OF THESE CRITTERS. CANT REMEMBER **** ( THANK YA )x(

    Dont quote me with certainty on this but I do believe most all auto manufacturers were running 12 volt systems by 1959.

    Im pretty sure in 1955 Chevrolet changed over to 12 volt

    All 55 2nd series and up are 12 volt. If your coil is heating up, might be a problem with your ignition resistor on the firewall or voltage regulator if you still have one.
