I was given a 700R 4spd Automatic and now I am told it has a electronic torque converter lockup. All I know is that there is some kind of 4 prong electric conector on the left rear side. Is this true and is there a way to not use it?

If you wouldn't mind posting your response, I'd like to read what you find out, I am looking for a 700R4 and will be putting it in a 76 Chevy, so I will not be using an ECM. Thanks

Gangrene, if you use the 700-R4 in your 76 Chevy, you will need an aftermarket wiring kit to lock up the torque converter in overdrive. They are available from several parts suppliers. Also, check out www.phoenixtrans.com for further information on the 700-R4.

Maybe I'm nuts but I had a 700R4 built for my restored 64 and the power supply for the lock-up is wired directly to my fuse block to a hot terminal when running. My system works great and I love the tranny.

I have a 700R4 sitting on my bench. It needs to be rebuilt but the housing is in very good shape. Rebuilding is not that expensive if you know who to go to.

    Make me an offer.

    you can uses 700R4 from......

1984-87 case 700R4 just have to make wire kit for the lock up to save gas.
After 88 to 94 you will need the ecm to make the tran work, or if you just take the gutts out all most all parts will fit 84-87 case. some of the parts in the 88-94 have updated parts better quality parts.
here is a SITE: tell you alot and sell them get you to know them better
