I was wondering if i can fit 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves in my .030 over 283? Or is 1.94intake and 1.50 exhaust the biggest i can get?

the 2.02 valves should be able to fit if you have the valve relief cuts in the top of the pistons

Heads with 2.02/1.60 valves will bolt up to your 283, without a doubt. But like "oldpickup" implied, you will need to make sure there will be clearence between the valves while they open and the top of the pistons... I am not sure of the exact process it would take to check proper clearence. Hope that helps out.

charlie, In the past I've used solid core solder as a rule of thumb gauge. Bolt the head on without the gasket, this gives you about .030 closer clearance or zero. Put a small peace of solder on the top of the piston, turn the engine over real slow, you might feel a bump, depending on the pistons. Pull the head back off and (mike) the solder. This thickness plus the head gasket is your true valve pocket clearance. You can get solid core solder in several gauges of thickness. I use 1/8" I have heard of people using plastic gauge but I never saw it that thick. Race car engine builders use clay but they have better things to measure them with then most of us have at home.
