Any suggestions for a gear ratio for a 12 bolt posi rear that I want to install in my 58 chevy that has a 283 engine and 350 trans. Looking for something that will be good for cuising speeds. I haven't gotten the rear yet, just want to know what to ask for. Has anybody done business with Currie Enterprises? Thanks Les

    3.08 with 235/75 x 15" rear tires results in 2000 RPM at 60 MPH.

common swap i've seen for 4-speeds is 3:73, but that's 4-speed manual. 3:08 will do, but you'll have no jump off the line. If you install gear vendor's overdrive kit for the TH 350, mated with 3:73's, you should be haulin' in no time.

    I'd go with a 3 : 50 to 3 : 70 if you are using a TH350. I have a Currie 9 inch in my 37 and it's just about indestructable.

The higher ratio may give you better gas milage, but around-town driving response will suffer. You need to make a choice based on the type of triving you do. Lots of freeway time will allow a higher ratio, like a 3 : 08. Lots of surface streets with stop-n-go , stay above 3 :50.
