heater core

    does anyone sell rebuilt heater cores for these old trucks.
    I got my engine running recently and just discovered that
    my heater sprung a leak from the core.

    Take the heater apart and drag the core around to several different radiator shops , a good one will be able to solder the leak and they'll know it only takes 4 # maximum .

    _ASK_ before you let some boob blow it up to junk like they did to my old '29 F**d model 'A' radiator .

    it's not the stock engine, it's a big block.
    is it possible to run these cores with that engine.
    Does anybody make a replacement that will fit my heater assembly, or just a complete swap out?
    My heater doesn't use those two holes oriented horizontally on the side of the firewall, it uses two holes oriented vertically about 6 inches apart, closer to the center of the firewall. The unit has 3 mounting bolts that extend between the hoses arranged triangularly.

    That's the heater with the round core, right?

    What kind of radiator and cap are you running? As Nate said, these cores are only designed (no matter whether the Deluxe Air-Flow or recirculating heater) for a maximum of 4# of pressure. A V-8 with the proper rad will run in the nieghborhood of 12#-16# (if memory serves me correctly). There is no way that the old heater cores will hold up for long under that kind of pressure.

    Maybe you can find a shop that will custom build a core. May be pricey, but worth it if you can drive without a puddle in the floor and a film on the windshield.

    Why not just have the core repaired and then run a 4 # cap ? no reason not to...

    I have a 13# cap on now.
    I didn't think 4# would be enough for the engine.

    and yes, it is the round core with the fan motor through the center.
    This stupid core has been nothing but problems.

    I have seen many of these heater core rebuilt. That is the key word rebuilt, to be successful the water channels must be opened cleaned and then closed then resoldered. This is a time consuming job. I would think most shops will not do a complete job. That said there is a place in Concord CA, Beko Radiator Cores(925) 671-2975. They will rebuild yours.

    Unless there's a serious problem with the engine overheating a 4 # cap should be fine but you should be able to get that core rebuilt
    if you look hard enough .

    It's a dying art , the proper rebuilding of radiators and heater cores .

    While restoring the heater sheetmetal, I removed the core and found a
    radiator shop that measured the core thickness, ordered the correct material
    and made Me a new one.....seems like it was $70.00 total....WB
