Unfortunately I have no experience with 55-59 trucks. But I know in my '65 I ran the stock radiator for a while. But when I stepped up to an automatic, I bought a new one with a trasmission cooler. Take measurements of your current radiator and then try to find one that is about that size.

You cannot find a radiator that cools too much, as temperature is controlled by your thermostat. With auto and air, get the biggest you can find to prevent overheating.

Here at classic parts, we offer a 4 core desert cooler radiator for your specific application. It will fit in the stock core support and it does come with the option of automatic cooling line fittings for the transmission. This radiator is designed to cool everything from a hopped up inliner to a big block, you shouldn't have any cooling problems with this radiator.
