Hello Group, Looking for new bumpers and all I can find are nice shiny chrome ones. What is a boy to do if he wants to paint them white? Do I actually have to buy chrome ones and paint over them? Robert, feel free to chime in here. Im sure y ou can blast the chrome or make it rough via some other method but that sure seems like a waste to me. Please advise.
If it were ME, I would try and find some off another truck that are in good shape. Getting NEW chrome bumpers were cheaper than rechroming what I had. So I would try to find an old bumper - chrome or otherwise - and paint it.
Just buy a new bumper. You can sand down the chrome and then paint the bumper white. Use a rough grit like 80 to remove the chrome and them use a finer grit to smooth out the metal. Whip it down with metal prep and paint away. You can also have the bumper bead blasted and then paint it. Blasting it is the easy way to go.
Hey if you were wanted to buy a good used one and not destory a new one,Ive got rear bumper that Id sale you for $100.00 dollars plus you pay shipping to NY,the bumper is off my 1966 c10 shortbed fleetside in good shape I took it of so I could evently put on a roll pan in the near furture.
I don't normally like promoting a competitor in anyone's forums, but I have seen painted/paintable bumpers for sale at another classic pickup parts dealer. If you want the name of said company, send me a private message and I'll get back to you as soon as I'm able.
