Need your help folks. Just bought a 1962 C-10 Step side. I have 6 lug wheels on it with drum brakes and dry rotted tires. I need some tires to get me thru winter and I found a set of 17" wheels with tires that came off a 2002 Denali. Does anyone know if these will fit my truck with little or no modifications? I may end up converting to disc brakes and 5 lugs when I get into the restoration but no time to do it prior to winter. Any ideas?
I do beleive the bolt pattern is the same but the back spacing is not. You might need spacers to make it work.
In a word ? NO. The later model wheels, while sharing the same 6 X 5 1/2 bolt pattern, are "Hub Centeric". All that means is that the wheel opening for the hub, ( wheel bearing cover), is smaller than the hole used on the front wheels of our year trucks. Some say that the hole can be widened to accomidate the wider opening, but I would not advise it as it can weaken the structure of the wheel itself. Others could suggest a wheel spacer, but personally I would not use that long-term on a daily driver type truck. Val
My answer is the same as above, but I learned from personal experience. A friend of mine gave me his off of a Yukon, tired to bolt them right up, the back spacing was whacked. Thought, well the wheels are free what does it matter if I spend money on spacers, then I ran into problems I did not notice before, the studs on my truck (66 C10 Stepside) were not long enough for me to feel comfortable riding down the road. Oh well, some of us don't think to ask questions before, and learn the hard and expensive way.
