ok boys i have a 86 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4. and i have an "out of order" 81 chevy 3/4. now how hard would it b to take the drive line (shafts, axles, transfercase) out of the 81 and put it in the 86? any help out b great..
Well to start it will be twice the work. It take you time to take apart two trucks drive trains and put one back it. the biggy is the rust and if anything is seized bad. Q is the 81 a 4x4 two. if not then it might be a little bit faster on it.
Axles will bolt right up. Without the shafts just requires a conversion u-joint for the rear. (Napa #447) If you take the trans and t-case, it wont take that much work. But if your just changing the t-case you can run into problems; wrong output shaft in the 86's trans and/or wrong length shafts. Find out what you have before you decide you need to change it out.
One thing I forgot to mention that might make doing the front easier; as long as the gears are the same, the only parts you need to swap are the outers. http://coloradok5.com/8lugconversion.shtml
