brakes

    Help!?!

    when brakes are applied the pedal doesn't seem to come back up from the floor. what does it sound like? this is a power disc/disc setup with new everything:confused:

    1965 short/step
    396 BB 400TH trans

    Do You Have Any Fluid Leaking On The Ground Any Where, Maybe A Bleeder Is Open Or Maybe Your Master Is Having Problems.

    This is usually related to a bad master cylinder or a leak in the system. Check for leaks first. You didn't say HOW the disk brake conversion was done so it's hard to recommend a solution if the master cylinder is at fault. If the conversion was done using a kit, call the manufacturer back. If you used a rebuilt master cylinder return it to it's source and ask for a NEW one.

    Place M/C in a bench vice. There have bench bleeding kits, but one can be made out of some old brake lines and fittings. You need to attach the brake lines to the M/C on each port, front and back, then loop the ends of the lines back into the m/c resivours. ( front outport into front bowl, back output to back bowl.
    Fill the m/c with clean brake fluid until the brake lines you looped back into the bowls are submerged. You will now need to slowly pump the m/c with "something" with a rounded end. I use an old brake pedal rod I keep for just that purpose. Slowly pump the brake acuator and you will start to see air bubbles emerge from the brake line tubes that you have in the bowls. Keep doing it until no bubbles emerge from the tubes. ( 10 minutes at least)

    Let it sit for 10 minutes, then pump some more. If no bubbles are seen, you are done !

    Remove the tubes from the M/c and replace them with plugs. Put the cover back on the m/c, and install in truck. Be sure you have plenty of shop rags covering any painted surfaces aroung the firewall and inner fender. Brake fluid will tear the paint off metal instantly !

    eureka! crappy m/c from O'r#####'s leaked into the booster and ruined it! Got it together and stopping on a dime...thanx bowtie brothers...

    Thats surprising. Usually Oreillys sells decent stuff I guess thats why they call it defective.
