It looks as though I will use the 1/2 ton 54 frame, V8/auto, different back end (duh) (and I'm open for suggestions!) (sounds like a 4WD GMC is just about the right everything?) I'll stick with the original front end including steering. (I'll just use Patrick's 2" lowering stuff) I'll use those headers that allow this to happen so I don't have to offset the engine. My 52 GMC cab will just have to like setting on that Chevy frame. With this in mind, I guess I'll have a good 228/4 speed for sale. The whole bed of the 52 is so beat up, it's not worth a hoot. The main reason I'm going this way is my daughter. I want to drive it everywhere and anywhere and then pass it off to her when I can't drive it anymore. (I might like to drive it down to Florida to do a little body surfin') Anyone see any holes in this? (Notice, I didn't mention- nor will I mention -paint- ) Oh yeah, power disc brakes. I could be talked into power steering, but there are aspects of driving a truck I like. Like it feels like you're driving a truck. Oh yeah, I'd go with a stick if anyone has any ideas what would be a great combo. As you can tell, I've made up my mind!
Jumk {arts I'll give you $20.00 for the worthless old Long Motor....... Sounds like a good plan . As far as rear ends go , measure the distance from the backing plate to the other backing plate then take that measurement to Pick-A-Part and go shopping , most modern (read : newer than say 1969) cars have good ratios right out of the box and drum to drum rear ends are only $125.00 as most self service yards...
Hey Zig, i thought about you earlier tonight. Over at the parking lot of our local Kroger, a bunch of folks have a little get together every Saturday night and show off their rides. I saw a really nice '52 jimmy truck that was painted pearl white. Of course, as usual, I didn't have my camera. Next time i go up there, i'll have the camera and if it's there, i will take some pics for you.
