I bought an overhaul gasked set from PAW. The rear main seal was not like the old one I took out. I called their tech line and they told me that the gasket set I got doesn't come with a rear seal for a 292. I wish I knew why. They gave me a phone number of the gasket company and they explained the seal I got was not for my engine. I've tried around town unsuccessfully. My original had little "tails" on the bottom half that fit into slots on the bearing cap. The one listed at the chevy dealer here is no longer available. If anybody has any info about the rear seal on a 1965, 292 cu. in. engine, I would really appreciate it.

    292

Three new inline engines made their debute in 1963. The 4 cylinder 153 was used in 10 step vans. The 230 and 292 was used in the 10-60 series.

    Good Day,
My 65 short box step has an original 292 with 3 on the tree.
If you can't find a real seal, I would try up here in Canada for you and mail it.
