My gas guage keeps pegging when I hook it up to the Ignition. I have gotten some ideas, tried them all and am out of options,Has this ever happened to anyone? The Guage is new,and so is the sender unit. I finally said the hell with it and put the Bezel face back in. I re-grounded the sending unit, and pretty sure it is hooked up correct. help!

Start at the guage and unhook the sender wire, if it drops to empty the guage is ok. Now hook up the sender wire to the guage and then unhook the other end from the tank sending unit, if it goes to empty then the wire is ok. If it stays pegged on full when the wire is unhooked from the tank unit then there is a short to ground in the wire between the tank and the dash guage. If all this checks out then it's in the sending unit. As one last check, when you pull the sending unit, leave the sending wire hooked up, run a jumper wire from the unit to a good ground and work the float arm up and down. If the guage responds then something is being grounded in the sending circuit when installed in the tank. If the guage pegs out as soon as you hook up the ground jumper then it's definitely in the sending unit.

Thanks Evan, I have tried all of the above,I guess I should have said it pegs way way over till the needle can not go any further. This is my 2nd new sender unit....I just dont think that I could get 2 bad uniys in a row. Lrt me run this buy you....This is something I have been thinking about..From my Ameter, I have a red (Pos.) and a Black (Neg), Were should the Black wire hook to? Right now it is grounded with the Battery ( Pos.) wire on the foot starter switch. Does that sound correct? I have the old foot Start, and like I said someone worked on the wiring and that is something I am haveing a heck of a time with,I have all the diagrams ect.. but I am dumbfounded, and I am starting to think the problem is right under my nose.
