    I have located a grill from a '54 Chevy, with dual rear wheels. The VIN begins with N54F...., so I believe it is at least a 4100 series truck. My question is, Can any part of this grill be used on a 3100. I seem to recall that this has been discussed before, but I am having some diffculty locating where I saw the answer.

    Thanks

    John

    The 4100 is a 2 ton truck. As far as I know the fenders,hood and grille will not interchange with the 1/2 ton .

    I have been told the '47 ~ '53 grille is _wider_ by a small amount on the larger trucks but I never actuallt measured to see .

    I wonder , since the '54 ~ '55 grille is a unique item if GM didn't $ave a few bucks and make just one , I'd imagine careful measurement of the grill opening
    in both a 1/2 ton a 4100 series should answer the question neatly - please let us know one way or another .

    I just looked in a '54 Factory Assembly manual, and they show the same part numbers for 3100, 3600, and 3800 series for all of the parts of the grill. The 4000, 5000 and 6000 series share the same part numbers, which are different from the 3100, etc. That would make me think that they are not the same. You might want to go to www.1954Advance-Design.com and search through Tim's site. Neat site and very informative on '54's.

    Have you tried mounting these fenders and hood on your 1/2 ton? I don't think they are going to work on your frame either!

    Federal,

    I did not get the hood or fenders off of the bigger truck as they were obviously larger than what I needed for a 3100 truck. The painted grille is in good condition and I was thinking about grabbing it for a "spare", if it will fit on a 3100. If not, anyone need a grille for the larger series truck?

    Nate,

    I brought the '54 Chevy grille home and set it on the floor in front of my '54 3100. The grille that I got was taken from a 4100 series truck and it definately looks somewhat larger than the grill in my 3100.

    It was still too good of a deal to pass up, so now I have a '54 - '55 Chevy grill for a 4000, 5000 or 6000 series truck,...if anyone is interested.

    Big 'Bolt Grille

    Sounds good to me John ;

    It'll make good yard art or hang it on the garage wall.......
