Well I talked to the owner and he said he would just want junk metal price for it ($100-$120) I am going to go check it out now and I'll right down the VIN and any other notes I think that I need.and Thanks dvalentine for posting that buyers guide. Also, the owner said when he parked it it ran great! (5-10yrs ago) So you think if I replace the battery/change the carbs change fluids it would run? I noticed there is no rusting through on the engine compartment from the sides/top so I hope I luck out there. Anyways I'll be back in about a half-hour and post my "notes."
ok me and my bro checked it out and there is rust in the kick pannels and some in the back of the seats but it all looks fixable. I was very happy to see there is no rust on the hinge posts *cross fingers* my parents might let me buy it. Also, the doors are in pretty good shape, probably need new hinges though the are really tough to move. Are they hard to come across?

It want hurt a thing that you are trying, good luck Aftershock hope it turns over for you, besides changing all the fluids change the plugs and plug wire ,make sure you get all bad gas out of your tank & gas lines also wouldnt hurt to change disturbutor cap and rotor bug if the truck has points, you might luck out and she might run for you . again good luck we are here for you on this form.
Thanks! I'm probably going to buy it either Saturday or Monday then we are going to get it over to our place during Christmas break (cause dad wants to wait till the ground freezes up a bit cause it's really muddy over where it is at right now) and that is when we will try and start her up!
This is a website that has small block v-8 casting numbers on it,can check on yours if its a v-8 lots of good imformation here www. mortec.com.
I Will try and check out the engine tonight or tomorrow during the day.... I know it has a "4 on the floor" transmission though. And I'm thinking it might be a 3/4ton or Heavy 1/2 cause the wheels have 8 bolts rather than 5. Or doesn't that mean anything on these trucks?
Sounds like the transmission might be 4 speed granny low,I have a parts truck that is a 1966 c-20 3/4 ton with 4 speed granny low 283 v-8 motor got the good old ram horn manafoilds ex,with the 8 lug 16 inch rims on it, heavy duty springs in under rearend.Your motor could very well be a 283 v-8 or even a v-8 327 very good motors .It just so nice to see the younger generation interersted in the 1960 to 1966 era of this truck .Good luck Aftershock, need any help anyone here is very glad to help out, pretty good family here .
So does that mean it is also 4-wheel drive? I couldnt' find any levers or anything for it, unless I'm looking in the wrong place?
I also noticed that the radiator was ripped out. The 2 hoses are still there though. I couldn't find one on classicparts.com. Any idea where to find them/how much they cost?
If Classic parts doesnt have one try LMC Truck, American Classic, Brothers truck parts, GMC Pauls. Or you can try Summit racing, Or Jegs.
I have another question.... When I get it finnished I will probably want something more than an I-6. Would a 350 HO work good in this truck? Also, can you get it w/out the chevy logo?
Yes it would work. The logo? I would have to see what your talking about. If its a decal, you should be able to peel it off.
This is what it looks like in the truck. If you don't like the valve covers with the bow tie, there are plenty of choices of aftermarket replacements. e_bay the old ones and recover some of the cost of the new ones. Me ? I like Bow-ties !! Val
