Note: The title didn't last long. It has a new home as of now.

I have a title that I got with an old truck that I bought for parts. It says that it is a 54 3100 pickup. It is a South Carolina title. The VIN is 2JPC7835. Can one of you guys that deciphers these tell me what I really have? Also, if anyone needs a title, this one was signed by the previous owner and dated 1990 so it is an "open" title. I would think all you would have to do is get one of the VIN plates from CP and have the number stamped in at the local machine shop and you would be good to go.

I also have the VIN plate but the number doesn't match the title. The number on the VIN plate is 54A00981.

Bill, the serial # tells me this. "2" assembled in Tarrytown, NY, "J" 1951, "P" 3100 series, "C" built in March and "7835" means that it was the 6835th vehicle to roll off the line. As to the second number, i have no clue at this 5 seconds. But i will research it.

Thanks, Ken. Now that you mention it, and I got out the magnifying glass, taht is a 51 instead of a 54. I think the person who uses this would have to sweet talk the county court clerk just a little. If they are like the ones I deal with, good luck.

Hey gator I could really use the title. I don't have one for mine. Let me know how much you want for it in private message and we'll see if we can work something out.

Having grown up in west Tennessee, county clerks "can be had". You just have to date their daughter!:D It helps to have a deputy sherriff as your next door neighbor too!;)

These titles are fairly easy to swap over. I have access to a stamp so I can make any VIN that I want to and put it on a vin plate. (Oh that's illegal, I didn't say that:D ). The title looks fine, just let me know gator.

    It's a Secret!

GM changed their serial numbering sequence in 1953. Pre '53's are easy to dechiper for me.

Here's what my magic decoder came up with for yours:

    "H" 3100 series
    "54" 1954
    "A" Atlanta, Georgia assembly plant
    "018256" 17,256th truck built

    Tennessee title?

Hey Gmcman, Tennessee title, huh? I'm suprised that my dad didn't get that truck before you! From the serial #, it was made in St. Louis. Seems like a lot of St. Louis built trucks ended up in West Tennessee. Do me a favor and check to see if your truck has original wheels on it and if so, please post what size they are, 15" or 16". I'm convinced that EVERYTHING that came out of St. Louis in the late 40's or 50's had 15" "Option wheels". Thanks, Ken
