Haven't had a car with a heat riser on it since my 1940 inline 8 Olds' when I was sixteen. The 235 I'm putting in my '54 does not have the thermo spring on the exhaust manifold. Heat riser is intact and moves freely, though. I am wondering how the spring attaches. Does spring go on the riser with it open or closed? I am guessing closed as it will open when the manifold and engine gets hot. Any help here? Anybody post a picture or description for me? Thanks, Andy
Hey Andy, to borrow an acronom from Nate, IIRC, the heat riser should be closed when cold and then open up when operating at temp. Whatever you do, don't say "i'll put WD-40" on it if if gets stuck. We know how HE gets!
Yarrgggggg ! no no no noooooooooooo ! Youse guys are sandbaggin' me ! If you can find it m use Graphite lube on it to keep it operating smoothly . -Nate
I have find a good source for Graphite lube is a local hobby supply shop. He has smaller tubes for kids pine wood derby cars. Also fairly cheap. I have used it for things such as the glovebox hinge, door latch,etc.. Works Great and seems to hold up ok
