I noticed I have a wire that doesn't go anywhere. It's part of the same group that go to the dimmer switch but is much longer than those. It ran along the door alongside the weather strip but stopped about where the door ends. It's black with a white stripe. Attached is a pic. The end is wound up and tied off like someone purposfully disconnected it.

Truck is a '77 c10 stepside. Pretty much no options, but does have the heavy duty breaks (1.25" wide rotors).

    Any ideas?

Does the truck have a seatbelt light on the dash?....some trucks have the seatbelt warning light that hooks up to the seatbelt so when you pull it on the buzzer turns off. or does it have a cargo light on the back of the cab....or did it at some time? is it a factory wire? or did someone add it... what about the cab light....i can't think of anything else it could be....maybe a factory flaw....who knows

It's never been hooked up while I've had it. I've never seen a seatbelt light or heard a buzzer. There is no cargo light, there is no overhead light. What ever it is it's something unimportant (hopefully). I can't even think of anything thats electrical other than the taillights in that direction. Are those 3 wires all the dimmer needs? It seems to work fine, but it wouldn't need to be grounded or something? I haven't checked to see if it's hot or anything. I assumed it isn't just because it's black. How about the antenna, every other car I've had ran the coax lookin' cable all the way from the radio to the antenna. My antenna is broken so radio doesn't work anyways, but I think it's hooked up the way it's supposed to (the mast is gone). I'll check around some more tomorrow to see if I can figure out if it was added by someone. I can't imagine that GM would just let a stray wire through the line... but I suppose anything is possible.

Orange wires white white are for the top dome light & cargo light heavy gauge
that from 75- 87 for sure. Heavy86Chevy is on the right track can you take a pic of your speedo cluster need to see the two big gauges and the bottom left small gauge.
? what style seat belts you got cheast and lap or just lap.
? does your door, when open can you see if there is a factory block off plug in
the piller or does it have a push pin button like a like a alarm push button.

? what type plug end (if it has one) on the wire that wound around the others

GM did set up trucks with extra option but it they did not want it and the wire was ready to put the end in( example dome light all they had to do is pull up the wire attach the light housing) that was one of the most common one done like this. Anothere one is the lighter. This is one of the best thing about GM made it easy to up grade wireing because most of the ends would be there or have a jump off plug so you can find the right wires up grade or back in the day just order the right wire hook ups.

My bet is the seat belt busser and seat belt light. Because I unhook all my busser to the seat belt bussers they annoy me.

Here are a few pictures. There is a fasten seat belts light, I just never noticed it. It comes on for a few seconds after the key is turned. There has never been a buzzer. I have shoulder/lap belts. So that's probably what it is. Where does this wire connect to the belt? I don't see any leads coming from the belt assembly.

There aren't any buttons on the door. No power windows or locks. There is a small circle that looks like it could be a block off plug of some kind for this purpose.

Sorry for the bad quality pics, they're from my phone.

I think I found where it connects to the seat belt. It was covered up with some old tape. I would assume this is a buzzer. I'll probably just leave it.

    Thanks for the help. :)
