Hi, I have been offered an 86 Chevy Pickup for $500. As of now, I know that it needs a new clutch, has a hole in the gas tank, and needs new brake lines and a spring/hinge for the hood. But it does run and drive. The paint is faded also ( i really dont care about that though). Basically I'm saying that this could be my first car. I have the money to buy it but I wanna make sure its a good deal. Dont get me wrong I love trucks and would love to work on one but im only a kid and i dont have the full time job to pay for serious problems. Any suggestions or tips on how to approach this the right way?
I just recelently purchased an 82 chevy for $600 and it takes quite a bit of money and time. Im only 15 and I mow 3 peoples lawns and that gives me plenty of money to buy things to restore it but i dont really have the time. Also, the truck is being stored at my grandmothers house 30 min away and it is hard to get there a lot so if you do buy the truck, I would definately keep it at home. I can tell you right now, the brake lines are gonna be a pain in the butt to do if you dont have the right tools. Im not to sure about how hard it would be to patch up the gas tank or how much it would be to buy one. But I think geting the truck would be a good idea especially considering the price. Well make sure the Rad support is not rusted out, Frame and suppsenion are not bent or rusted out. These are the bigges things. if you do not have a lot of bucks would like the truck to drive, but all these can be got but work and money will cost even if you do most of the work. then Motor & Trans, Diff will be the next. To me that might be a parts truck but if you can do most of the work and really want it. If you can get enough money saved up to get it on the road then safely then it's a good deal. It's a old truck so Time and money so if you do not have the time and want it on the roadsooner then later then it's not a good deal.
