Progress pictures of my 51 short box (UPDATED 1-6-07)

I thought i would finally post of some pictures of the truck. I bought the girlfrfiend a camera for christmas and finally got her ot open it. Hidden agenda, but anyways, a picture of the first day i bought the truck, and some pictures i took this morning. I have plastic hung in the garage, i made a makeshift sandblasting/paint booth. I am also throwing a picture in of my recent concrete operation on the garage floor. I do concrete for a living so I had ot take a picture. Enough rambling, ON TO THE PICTURES!!

UPDATE: today i finally got osmeone to help me lift the cab off of the frame. I hung more plastic to try and finish my paint/sandblasting booth. i got the ceiling hung and all of the sides hung, but cant open the garage anymore ot get a good picture. Ran out of plastic and will head ot Lowe's at some point. Also if you have seen the brand new LMCtruck magazine, i included a picture in the magazine that, for some reason, i think is amazing. I love our trucks!!!

To much fun! Great photos! Wouldn't it be great if the time it took to strip things down was as quick as it took to look at those pictures? You blew that apart! So a lot of questions come to mind of course... I'll be brief and just ask, "What's on the menu?" By the way, I need a garage floor- for starters...
(I love the gift idea! These kinda' things have to be tested, don'tchaknow? Make sure they can do all the things they're supposed to do!;) )

it took me about a month to tear the truck down from the fist pic to the last. I plan on a fatman fab front and rear suspension, with airbags. Air bag equip. will be behind the seat. Found a gas tank to put under the bed, w/ custom flush side bed fill neck. It will come out in front of the rear passenger wheel. I have a color of choice thread ot show the color of green im going with, along with a gray or beige tweed interior with cloth seat. Motor will be a fuel injected 350 (ls1/ or ls6). auto tranny, ford 9 inch rear end. It will have chrome and more chrome. Here are the wheels i think i am going to buy.

They have them in all chrome as well but am undecided.

Custom bed to accomodate the air ride suspension in the back will look like this.
Frame will get herculiner as well as the bed. EZ wiring harness or something equivelent will be used for wiring.

It must be nice to have things laid out! It sounds like a heck of a plan! You obviously can post pictures with the best of them, so could you please keep us up to date with the progress? All the best with it!

I was going to go the whole Vette engine thing myself, but I just can't stand not being able to hear that lope in my hotrod. The tranny from what I found out with talking to a lot of people will have to be a 4L60E. Awesome trans and overdrive to boot. I also talked to a guy at the good guys show here in nashville and he makes a torque tube and trans that will fit in our trucks like the C5 does. I saw it on display at the show and was by far the coolest thing I've ever seen. If I can find his site I'll email it to you.

BTW those rims are sick. What website did you find those on. This is the same style I'm wanting to go with. I have found similar to that style in the price range and size that I'm looking for but those are nice too. What size are you putting under yours. I want 20x8.5 in front and 20x10 in the rear. I love the staggered look. I was going to go with the same as above in the front and 22x10 in the rear but that set was going to cost me $5k. I found the other set of 20's all the way around for $1800.00.

Looking good on progress, keep the pics coming.

here is the link to the wheels. http://www.hubcap-tire-wheel.com/order.asp

they are really reasonably priced. They only make the 20's with an 8.5 width which sucks but with the price difference you will be able to run 22's in the back if you still want. 272 a piece for the 20's in black, i think chrome is 80 more per wheels. i did shipping calculations for 4 of the above to my door for 1150. they are 20x8.5.

kevin, the 4l60e is only good in some cases. It came in 6 cylinder s-10's and also corvettes, camaros etc. the v6 tranny is a heck of a lot weaker and it is very hard to tell the difference until it is too late. The insides are setup way different in terms of strength. My plan is to go for a 4l80e, which i think you can get out of newer corvettes. It will withstand the pressure with little problems. Also a 700r4 is a good cheap trans if your looking ot beef one up. It will work pretty well. With the ls1/ls6 and some mods to boot, i fear the worst for a 4l60e in my truck

Good point Kyle, I wasn't really thinking about it that way. I just know that a lot of people around here are using the 4L60E with theirs. Maybe they aren't really getting on them that hard. If I have that much power though, I don't think I could help myself. I'd have to leave a few stop lights up in smoke!!!:D

Look in the rear-view. See those lights? And now you're spending even MORE money on your ride... Dang the luck...

    Spray booth

Hi Kyle, I've sprayed many a car all outside. The problem with spray enclosuers is there is no where for the overspray to go, so it settels back down on your fresh paint. Nice thing about painting outside is you also have good lighting. Cant paint good If you cant see what your doing. After Its painted roll it in the garage and let it cure. Chris;)

i mainly have the booth set up for sandblasting so i can collect the media after it has been sprayed. I recycle the media because im cheap and it has well more than one use in it. Also the paint i will be spraying is just some primer to cover the bare frame and a few other little things to primer. The frame is getting a bedliner material put on it so i can do my sanding/prep for that if the spray settles back on it. I am no painter and will surely out source the important paint

Hey Kyle I just ordered my air ride for the rear and four link for the rear from air ride technologies and I'm not gonna have to notch out my bed. I just saw the pic above of your plans with the bed. Make sure before you cut anything on yours that the fat man fab kit won't allow you to keep the floor of the bed flat. But then again mine won't lay frame but will lower down a total of 8 in travel. If I had ordered the street grader then I would definately have to alter the bed floor.

hey thanks for the information. Of course i will wait until i get the stuff to see what i have to do. I do like to have some sort of idea though, i rely too much on hasty decisions. I want to be able to stuff to the floor, but not literally on the ground. I am shooting to keep it high enough for nothing to touch, HAHA. By the way, how much was all of that?

Air ride technologies is pretty pricey but I have ridden in it and I know that I love the way it rides and handles, so that's why I didn't mind spending the money. I just didn't want to spend a ton of money and not like the ride or control of the truck. They make several different kits for different applications. Since I'm using the S-10 frame I'm going to use the "S-10 Air Bar", which is what I ordered and cost me $950.00. The front will be Shockwave bags and the Ride Pro e2 compressor and control system. Here is the link:

    http://www.ridetech.com/productinfo/airbars10.asp

The entire system is going to cost around $3000.00 but it is well worth the money to me.

It is a full programmable system so that when you start the truck it will automatically go to ride height and you can put three different height presets in it and get to them quickly with the press of a button. I like it to because you can see what each bag pressure is and adjust them on the LCD screen. I saw them at the Good Guys Show in Nashville and was hooked ever since.

BTW do you plan on attending the Kentucky Nationals in August, in Louisville. I'm most likely going. I've been before and is definately the coolest show I've ever been to. Lots of cars and trucks and LOTS of vendors.

Oh yeah to see the front bags and the ride pro e2 system then scroll down to the bottom of the link and you can click on them to see what they look like and get info on them as well.
