Does anyone have suggestions or experience in closing in the area behind the seat. I have insulated the cab area behind the fuel tank and want to cover the whole tank area from the lower seat area to the top, just below the top of the seat. My idea is to cover the area with some type of flexable material that can be covered with matching carpet like the floor. Then I want to mount the rear speakers in the blank area to each side of the fuel tank. Any pics or suggestions appreciated. TB'sD
there is some sort of "hot rod" cover in the classic parts online store, not sure if you looked there yet. I like the way it looks. I am going to hide all my components for my air ride in there ________ Medical Marijuana Grow
Here's a thought! I'm thinking mini package shelf flush with, and contoured with the back of the cab and extending forward to a point that doesn't interfere when the seat is pushed back to the maximum amount. I'm thinking plywood with a thin veneer of the same wood that you put in the bed, finished the same way. Extending down from the package shelf to the floor is plywood, covered in the same carpeting that you are using on the cab floor with speakers mounted flush with the carpeted plywood. That takes care of 2 speakers. Then flush mount 2 speakers in the kick panels, that's 4 speakers now. Then in the original speaker area in the dash, mount 2 more, and viola, you have a kick-butt 6 speaker system for "Elvis plays Gospel"!!!
Here I go getting custom again.... Okay guys here is my thought on what I am doing. Go get the newest edition of custom clasic trucks magazine (february issue) and go to page 18. I know this is a picture of a ford but still the same concept. It is a fiberglass mold that goes around the seats and empties out to a center console between bucket seats. Now TB'S D I know you have a bench but you could still use the same concept if you wanted to. Actually the bench would be easier to do this with because not as many curves are needed. It really looks to be pretty simple, yet I'm not the fiberglass genius that's my dad. But this is just a thought from a young street rodder right??? The best thing about doing this with fiberglass is you could paint it to match the truck and would look great. The plan for the speakers in my truck is two boston acoustic subs begind the seat. My two mids will be in the lower door panal and the two tweeters will be in the upper portion of the door panal. The amps will be mounted between the two subs in the fiberglass box.
Kevin, i'm excited about your sound system! BUT, no thumpa, thumpa retard noise when we cruise Paducah. I'll pick the music! Can you convert 8-track to CD and still get the "true" scratchy melodies i grew up with? May 12 here we come. Get busy, boy!
My wife has a two disc CD of Frankie Vallie and the four seasons that she just got. Will that work?? She said we had to play that when we go to the car shows. We listened to it all the way to Atlanta and back last weekend. As long as I get to go to the shows then I don't care what it is coming through those speakers. Oh yeah guys, ( I know I'm a magazine junky but....) Check out the latest edition of Truck Builder magazine and it has a how to article on swapping your tranny over to a 700R4. It explains in great detail and shows good pictures on how to hook it all up correctly. Also the cover truck of custom classic trucks magazine is a sick 54 chevy truck. Lots of great ideas in that truck especially if you're going street rod with your truck.
Oh yeah forgot something. I know this doesn't go with this thread but to all of you who were wondering about the under cab brakes (Zig) the Truck Builder magazine also has a how to with lots of detailed pictures that they install on a 53 chevy panal. I know it's a panal but you will still the get the jist of how it's supposed to be. Okay now back to the original subject, I wouldn't want to throw anyone else off subject.
I knew i liked Tab better than you! Ain't nothin' wrong with the Four Seasons! Ain't nothing wrong with Mags either. Feb edition of "Cars and Parts" has an article on an awesome '57 Chevy Cameo Carrier! And...if anyone has a copy of "Collectible Automobile" Feb 2004, it has an outstanding article entitled "1947-55 Chevrolet Trucks: Durable Goods". 13 pages of pics, data, etc about our beloved trucks!
CP Part Thanks, I hadn't seen the tank cover in CP parts until you mentioned it. Next question would be, is it strong enough to hold 2 speakers securly with out shaking and viberating. I guess i'll have to call them and ask the tech line. They have been great to answer my question the two times i've called. The price probably wouldn't be much more than if I built something myself. You guys are alright, I knew I could get and answer if I come to the right source... Thanks, TB'sD
Vibration issue! Plastic or thin ABS won't stand up to big woofers. The lower the frequency, the higher the vibration. My good buddy, Sir Issac told me that (Newton or Hayes, they were both right)! Tweeters will work on ABS, but if you want gutsy, "feel like a heart attack bass", you need to mount it in something substantial!
Speaker size They are only 120 watt 5x7. Don't want the Boop boopin to much . It sounded great when we hooked it up but want be that loud. Wonder if I could brace the ABS just a little and it would hold up with that small of a speaker? Thanks for the info. TB'sD
What? Remember how small the cab is? I think the reason i'm half deaf now is two-fold. #1: Too many rock concerts in the '70's and #2: having too cool a sound system in a confined area since then. But then again, that's what Beltone's are for! I'm thinking that 120 watts in the cab of an AD is overkill! But then again, i'm an old hippie with partial hearing loss trying to adapt in today's world! No wait, i'm not trying to adapt, i'm right! My generation was cool! We had all the answers! Power to the people, baby! 8 tracks are forever. Having fun tonight! Woodstock 1969 quote: "Whoa, dude, there's some bad acid floating around". Woodstock revisited in 2009 quote: "Hey man, there's some bad ant-acid floating around"!
Ant-acid Ken, your too much LLLLLOOOOOLLLLL. The only live concert I ever went to was Boston LIVE. Man were they live, but I couldn't hardly see them for all the funny smellin smoke. I and my friends were on the third row. I have to admit that those were the days, chech and chong, Boston, the BeeGees, big time on the 8 track hangin from beneth the dash,,, clunk, clunk between the songs. Wow, where did those days go... probably "up in smoke" It's probably over kill, but then what do I know, I'm from the days of AM and 8 tracks. I'm just going by what the Boop asked for. And like I said, The Boops smile gets her just about anything the Boop wants. Go ahead, ask her if she's spoiled rotten, she'll tell ya straight up <<<<<<<<<YEP>>>>>>>>> and that the way she wants to keep it TB'sD
120 watts????????? Okay guys so I won't tell you that I am running at least a 1000watt amp to push my subs then. You can have a lot of wattage and not go def. Just can't crank it all the way up very often. Only when me and Ken are going down town in Paducah right??? You guys had to bring up "Up in Smoke". One of my all time favorite movies. I've cleaned up alot in the past couple of years, but I used to watch that movie through smoke filled eyes all the time.
Being Deaf was its Advantages! Cost of a Boston ticket in 1974-$20 Buying their 3 CD box set of their greatest hits in 1994-$45 Buying a 6 speaker sound system wrapped around a 2001 Tahoe-$30,000 Not being able to hear SWMBO rant because you forgot to take out the trash-priceless. For everything else, there's Mastercard!
Repent I believe I need to repent, I shouldn't admit such things should I. Especially since I've been a preacher for the last 25 years. I'm sure glad the Lord forgives, if not i'd be in a heap of trouble. Anyway, there was a day when such things happened. Kinda lke the girl i delt with today. She said her boy friend was harassing her because he wanted their child. I asked her if they were married, she said no, I asked her if they lived together, she said no, I asked her if they dated, she said no. Then I asked her how they had a child, duh, she said "well it was one of those things that just happened. Excusea me!!! Children dont' just happen. I wanted to ask her if she knew how it happened, but not that wouldn't be very professional now would it? Any way, even i'm smart enough to figure that one out. Ken, we got some real winners in this county, I guess that why we need a nut house so close. TB'sD
Huh, you want to hear about stupid mothers! we have the proud claim of having more teenage mums in England than anywhere else in Europe, kids bringing up kids now, and their parents are defending them for getting pregnant at 14 or 15!!!!!!! Its a mixed (polite version) up world we live in. ________ Pissing toilet
Bvvvvvvvv!!!!!!! What a hoot! Kevin, I can see it now. For some reason you run out of gas! Not to worry! You just open up both doors, put it in neutral, put in something like "Mister Mr"'s (spelling?) "Broken Wings" and CRANK IT UP!!! All of the Bass Blast will push you on down the road because the sound waves come flying out and get shot backwards because of the open door theory! Crap, that won't work, you're going suicide doors, right? That would push you backerds instead of forwards! Oh well... Speaking of smoke filled eyes and movies to watch- I barely remember what a trip "Monty Python's Holy Grail" was!!! "Bring out your dead"... "It's only a flesh wound!" (Andy) "We want a SHRUBBERY!" My eyes are getting red just thinking about it! My daughter just woke up, another snow day begins! We've been out of school ALL WEEK! Cabin fever!!!
That's okay Zig I know how to drive backwards if the occasion arose. I just hope those suicide doors don't act as a parachute one of these days.
mock-up? Hey Kevin, I've seen a few pictures of these ADs with suicide doors, but none in person. I'm thinking that entry into these would be best WITH suicide doors. With my bench, getting in is kinda tight. It seemed to be "smoother" when I was a teen and had my 50. (Maybe that was because I couldn't wait to get it, fire her up and listen to the "Low Spark" of Steely Dan on the 8-track!) I'm sure when mine is running like I want it, getting in will be the last of my worries! Getting OUT will be the hard part!
