Hey guys, I have a 52 chevy pickup that I am doing a frame up restoration. I been working on it since I was 16, I am trying to find a steering column that will fit into my truck. I don't have the original to work with and I don't have the money to buy one from IDIDIT. Any advise would be healpful, thanks

I sould have been more specific, I am restoring it to hotrod condition. I have read in a few places that people have used S-10 steering columns in thier trucks. Is that possible or do I have to buy one from IDIDIT or flaming river to make it look good.
    Thanks

    Sorry BarodaAJ,
When I saw that you did not have the orig coupled with the word "restoration" I thought you were going original. It is kind of an unwritten rule that "restore" is used for the true restoration to original. I guess rodding out or restorodding is what we have started calling all others.
I will have to pass on knowing what fits. I would just be happy to get my original column out, rebuilt and back in without destroying my left front fender.
Good luck finding an affordable column. Be sure to show us some photos as you progress.
    Gater

    S-10 works great

I know that the S-10 column will work just fine in these old trucks. Hell they work great in most old cars period. I may have one for you. Let me see if my dad isn't going to use it, and if he's not then we'll see if we can't work something out if that's what you're looking for. It is out of a 1985 S-10 ext. cab. My truck is two hours away right at the moment and I won't see it again until the first weekend in feb. so be patient with me if this all works out.

Thanks Kevin for the advise, and I appreciate the offer for column but I don't think that I will need it. Just knowing that it will work is great. I know a few salavge yards in my area that have some columns.

P.S. I have learned my lesson with the word "restore" :D

I don't like late model steering columns in old trucks. ....too big and bulky. I modified the stock column to work with the S-10 steering. I cut it off near the box, installed a bearing and collar, and ground flat spots on the shaft to accept a double D universal joint (camaro?). I think it looks right and was built out of leftovers.

Do I see mustang seats in that truck. They sure do work well in these old trucks. That's what my dad put in his 40 F**D truck. They look good and are comfortable too.
