After letting my 87 chevy pickup sit for quite a while I drove it about 30 miles one day forgetting to check the transmission fluid. As I have a slow leak coming from the automatic tranny its something I had to do regularly. Anyway it ran fine till it went to downshift and it banged into low gear REAL hard. It barely got me off the road before it wouldn't move at all. I got some fluid and checked the level. It was just touching the dipstick if at all so I poured a pint in. It then would move but would not shift properly. I had to keep it in either 1st or 2nd gear and made it the few miles home. Its been cold here and I haven't done anything with it since. I have replaced trannys before but I do not get into them myself. Anyone like to help me out with a guess as to whether it looks like a complete rebuild or rebuilt time or something (hopefully) less costly to fix. Thanks for any advice

Wow , must really be bad ,eh? After talkin to a mechanic and telling him it was slipping some before this he thought I might have a bad pump in the tranny. Got 150,000 on it so probably try to pick up a used tran. for this or check out rebuilt . Just a work truck and don't plan on trickin it out if you know what I mean. Thanks anyways fellas.
