This is a question for anyone who knows about the wheel fit problem on the front axle of 3800s. There is a one ton on ebay now that has 1993 Suburban 16 inch rims that look like they fit fine on his 1953 3800 1 ton. There is also a set of these rims on ebay and the seller says the back offset is 5 inches. The orginal rims have a back offset around 3.75 inches and are 17 inch rims. I have tried 16 inch rims with a 5 inch backspace and they do not fit my 48 beacause the inner lip of the rim hits the idler arm. Could the idler arm on a '53 give more clearance to the rim than the 48 does? I know the vast majority of you guys have 3100s or maybe 3600s and you hope that I find some wheels soon so I will quit asking for help on this but it has become a real hassle to find steel rims that will fit. Thanks, Gater
Never mind. I just called the guy with the truck and he said he ground on the idler arms to make them clear the rims. If anyone is interested, here is the truck on ebay and it is in Minnesota. His reserve is $4K. Gater http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1953-CHEVROLET-PICKUP-ONE-TON-WITH-9-5-FOOT-BOX_W0QQitemZ290082470580QQihZ019QQcategoryZ5348QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
