    Ken,
The link does not work for me. Kinda anti-climatic.

    Firewall problem?

Gater, if you tried to access it at work, you might be victim of your company's firewall. I can't access a lot of things at the office due to ours.

Now you've gone and done it Ken. Zig is gonna be on that link all night long and come back ranting and raving that GMC is the king. That's okay, he deserves to have his fun every now and then.

I'm still in Atlanta guys so I can only be on the net very limited at the hotel. It's killing me though that I can't be on here all the time like I am at home. I did see a sad but beautiful sight all at the same time on the way down here. In the west bound lane sit a 48-53 heavy chevy. No bed on it and dual wheels sticking out in the back. It was the original forester green. I was in between exits and about ten miles to the next one to turn around or I would have stopped. Not that I could have fixed it because surely it was original, but it was good to see that someone was driving this big truck through the mountains on the interstate. I hope he made it alright but it did make me think of you guys when I flew by it. I wish I could have had a picture of it to share with you guys. Have a good week all.

    That thing...

...on the passenger door at the top. What is it? My guess was it was some kind of siren but that doesn't make sense to me.

That is actually an aftermarket A/C unit on the passenger side window. If I remember right they filled it up with ice and then the opening on the front allowed air to flow in over the ice then into the cab.

It's called a " Swamp Cooler " and it only worked in the drier climates as it had a pump in it that would run the water you'd fill it with , up into a screen where it'd evaporate as the air came through it , different ones had sometimes a cord you'd pull to pump up the water from time to time .

Useless in the himid summers of my yoot in swampy New England .

They are making them again now....

    Runningboard Board Safety tread plate

Did anyone notice the safety tread plate (pic 37)? GM sold them for $7.50 a pair in 1950. Guess who has a pair of NOS ones, still in the original GM box with the mounting template? (Hint, he's going to put them on his '50 PU one of these days);)

Thanks Ken- I think I need a cigarette.

That's all incredible stuff, but mine's going to be free of as much stuff as I can get it. I've lived around clutter for long enough. My ride will be basic/clean. That ride, however, is as much of a history piece as it is anything! Awesome job of capturing the time when Bells and Whistles weren't hooked up to a computer!:)

    Those were the days....

    It's definitely a rolling museum!

However...there is one thing that it is missing. And probably the most added non GM accessory of that era! Where are the "blue-dot" tail-light lenses?

    Nice looking rig?

No, here's a nice looking rig! Picture this. An emd GP-18, retrofitted with dynmanic brakes, painted black and white with the "CIty of New Orleans" painted on the side. Now that's a good looking rig!!!!!
