Here's pics of our latest hidden fuel filler setup. Rather than pay the $400 plus that the kit offered costs we used two arms off of 80's and 90's Cougar and T-Bird fuel doors. (The years they had the identical body). Paid five bucks for two of them. What's different is that the bed strips are fastened to the swing up board so it's absolutely invisible.
Hey Evan, Tell me a little bit about what looks like seat belt clips that hold the tailgate closed and the cables that prevent it from flopping into the bumper. Thanks, Andy
That looks really neat. If someone were to steal that truck they would make it as far as the gas in the tank would let them go then they would scratch their heads for sure. Boop's Dad and I have been talking about how to attach the bed. I don't see any bolt heads on this one. How did you secure this bed to the frame? Thanks, Gater
So it's the original tank with the two different arms. That is TOO slick! I assume the arm you used pops the board up enough to get your fingers under it to lift it the rest of the way? I love the "boltless" look! Awesome job! I look forward to finding out about those gate latches, also. Top Drawer!
BTW- Thanks! I forgot to say thanks Evan! I know it takes time to post these, so thanks for the visuals!!
Darn, guys, you are sure sharp eyed. I'm so channel minded I only see the main topic and not the surroundings. Irritates the heck out of my wife. Chiro--they are indeed seatbelt buckles and you have to trim a 1/2" off the inside of the tailgate end channel to gain room for the late model limiter cable to fold into. Tailgate chains, even covered ones, banging against a fresh paint job isn't my idea of a good design. One does have to remember that these were bought as TRUCKS so it wasn't a factor then but now they're toys for some. Tailgater--we cut a 50 cent piece size hole in the side of the boxes that are on each end of the rear bed crossmember then use a thick washer that spans the slot that's in the bottom of the box and bolt it down. On the front there is room (just barely) to run a bolt through the plate on the bottom of the bed crossmember that has the factory bolt hole in it.
Yabutt : It's a truck . I have the chain tubes but they're (of course) rotted and the chains jangle a bit as I'm bouncing down those lonely desert roads I love so much.... The curved scratches in the white paint are hard earned by my truck's willingness to keep on going , year after year , earning it's keep ~ no need to give up and be replaced by a new plasti-truck . Even if I ever win the Lotto (or other improbable source of $) and have the $30,000.00 I'd like to throw into it , it'll still look the same , I would just take it all apart and de -rust every inch then re-paint and re-trim it , new rubber and a 261 (sigh) bit it'd still have my busted and repaired box and tailgate to remind me I bought it to -enjoy- it and if it gets a scratch or I spill my coffee in the cab , no worries , I can fix it again . I see a LOT of Task Force show trucks with the seat belt latch thing . Make a smoothie tailgate look nice but those trucks no longer work so ....
