Hi all, New to the forum, new to truck ownership! My name is Dave, i'm 23, and live in Southampton, UK. Just bought myself a 1965 Chevy C10, in good condition. It's excellent and beats the hell outta my french shopping car I had before, plus they are never seen on the roads over here! This is a whole new experience for me, classic engine (230 inline 6 as far as I can tell) and lots of little niggles I expect to have to solve over the next few years, so expect lots of help requests. First stop is a workshop manual methinks! -Dave
Welcome To The Forum Dave. Feel Free To Ask For Advice Whenever You Need Too, Or Come Across Any Little Niggles. We All Enjoy Helping Each Other Out. And Welcome To The World Of Trucks. Thats a good looking truck you have there, diffenently in good condition and a great place to start any fixing up or modifications.
Welcome to the forum. Lots of good folks in here with a wealth of information. All I want to know is.... Where are all these nice trucks coming from overseas ?? !! Congratulations, looks like you got a good one !! Val
Hi, Thanks all. As for nice trucks overseas.... it was purchased by a guy in England from a Mr Evanson in California, and brought over by boat to Southampton docks in 2002. It was a well looked after truck in California, with proper upkeep for which I still have the reciepts. When imported to the UK it was stripped right out, cleaned up, repaired in the few rusty places, resprayed and had the chrome rims fitted. Traded in by the previous owner towards a 3100 shortbed stepside, I saw it whilst in the garage loking at my friends 58 plymouth fury he is having restored, fell in love, bought it, and now driving around a very happy boy ;-) So I don't know about all the nice trucks overseas, but thats what happened to this one -Kom
yep a Plymouth Fury, he is having it retored over here in the UK, costing him an absolute fortune. Chrome trim I believe, he is having it restored exactly like Christine, its gonna be beautiful. -Kom
If it is a Fury (58) I believe it had to have the gold side trim and grill mesh. That was the first year for the Fury and it only came that way. Color was a fawny-tan color. If it were me ? I'd restore it to original. It's too rare a car to bring back as a Cristine knock-off. I think the Cristine car was a 57 and not a Fury. Val
You could be right, i'm going to have to check next time I speak to him now, i'll let you know! Now, to my truck. As far as I can tell, she is currently running on stock transmission for the 230 6, it has the GM logo and serial number on it at least. I'm doing quite a few highway miles in it, and i'm just wondering if cruising at 60 down the highway, with the original 3 on the tree manual is bad for the engine? I don't have a taco fitted as it still has the stock instrument panel so no clue on the rev's really. Gas mileage seems ok, less than i was expecting in fact. The engine is all stock too, single barrel rochester carb, stock airbox, fuel pump etc, so even more reason to assume the tranny is the stock 3 speed manual that goes witht he 230 inline 6. Just worried about damaging her. So do I clean up the few bits of bodywork that need sorting, and put some nice seats/instruments on the interior, or blow all my cash on a 700r4 or similar. The truck is my daily driver by the way -Dave
