I have a motor that I am intending to put in my 47 if my 216 is cracked. The number off the side is 3833057. we think it is a 250. I would like to know what year it is and anything else anyone knows about the engine. thanks

My reference material is not that "new" but what i can gather from a google search is that casting #3833057 is an inline 6-cyl produced between '62-70 with a cubic inch displacement of 194 cu. in.

Bore it out to a 230...

and it will run for 250,000 miles! The one in my '63 biscayne did! Replaced a water pump at 130K, but that was it!

Where do you find this stuff Ken? You seem to have all the books with all the technical need to know things in it.

so the 194 has a little more power than the 216 that makes me feel better. Is there an intake out there so I can put dual carbs on it and maybe split exhaust. Also I need a carb for it I used my 216 carb to run it in the stand but the bolds on the 194 were farther apart so I had to use an adapter that turns the carb 1/4 so if I do put it in my truck the linkage wont hook up. what carb will work?

    two people!

My grandfather and my father. I have read and almost memorized every book, manual, tech bulletin, you name it, that both of them ever owned. They are the fondest memories I have of both of them!

Not To Pi$$ On Your Parade But

The 194 C.I. 6 Banger was introduced in 1962 and was GM's very 1st. thinwall casting engine ~ they're O.K. engines , I prefer the 230 or 250 version as the 194 is pretty gutless . many suffered from flat cams just like 350 V-ates did . these engine do _NOT_ suffer dirty oil well so keep it changed regularly...

I like the Rochester B1BC Monoblock carby they come with new , in auto choke or manual choke versions they carburet very well and have no flat spots on cold mornings etc....

I had several Chevy II's and Novas plus a Biscayne or two that had this engine , I felt all of them to be underpowered .

Me , I'd go find a cheap or free 235 takeout and use that , more useable power and a straight bolt in deal too .

    Refresh my memory

Did the 194 have an integral intake/exhaust manifold? For that matter, did the 230?
