Bought the Chevy Duty wiring harness for 55-57 with alteranator. Anyone have any idea how to wire in a fuse for the main power (think I know..just checking) and how to eliminate change to suit the HEI ignition? It would be great to know for sure before I melt the harness ! Thanks Shawn
alternator wiring Hi, I feel for you. If you don't get an answer or get tired of waiting look over here. Mya need to paste it into your browser. http://www.stovebolt.com/bboard/cgi-bin//ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=3
You can put a fusible link wire where your main feed wire hooks to the solenoid, it comes in different amp ratings. The HEI uses a straight 12v so if the harness has a place for a ballast resister jump across that of if it has a resistance ignition wire run an auxillary wire to bypass it.
I used this same harness. I didn't wire a fuse for main power but the fusible link suggestion is right on. What I did for the resistor was connect both spade ends to the same terminal bypassing the resistor. I did set up relays for the headlights (you have to relay both the high and low beams) and I also set up a rely for the HEI. HEI will pretty much suck all the voltage you can give it. It runs best around 16-19v which is why I added the relay.
Did you have 1 or 2 wire going to the starter ? I am still struggling a bit....... I just ran the + coil wire direct to + side of HEI I got it running , but no accesories are polugged in yet......I am afraid of frying it !! Thanks Shawn
