need some advice, `1950 column shift, gear selector works and works and works and then will get hung up in neutral, i raise the hood, mess with the levers on the steering column and it again works, no rhyme or reason or pattern to why or when or what gear i was last in, any ideas and should i replace the lever assemblyThanks in advance for the help.
Also i have an oil filter on my engine cartridge style and an old man keeps telling me that there aint original they didnt have them back then,
i think it was an option as its posted on the option listing , any input here

    oil filter

Chevy did not put oil filters on the engines, but did offer them as an accessory. The most popular ones bolted on the manifold. Check on this link to look at a classic example of a Fram. AC made them too.

Let me clarify. The term "accessory" really should be RPO (regular production option). Chevy offered an oil filter (AC of course) as RPO 237.

    Sticky Shifter

Look in older posts under " square Shifting " or " Posative Shifting " , maybe " floppy levers " as I've covered this in detail .

Many folks didn't have the $ to afford the oil filter , as it's a by-pass typ you cannot use a spin on on your 216/235 engine , they were fitten at the factory
(' RPO ' ) dealer _and_ after market , various brands , keep it , use it and change it . NAPA/Wix sells the filters cheaply .

    Oil Filter P/N's

    Lesse.....:

    NAPA 5" (AC typ) # 1100

    or if it's a FRAM 8" , NAPA P/N # 1503

For WIX just add a 5 to the front of the part number .

Remember to wipe all the sludge out of the cannister with clean rags...

    I hope this helped .
