As previously mentioned, the dome light was not working. I could live with that for awhile but as darkness fell the other night I have found that the tail lights and my panel lights are also not functioning. The break lights and my turn signals do work. I tested for current on both sides of the fuse block and both sides are good. Where to begin? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Break In The BRAKE Lights ?

It all depends if you have combined brake lights and turn signals but look on one side of the brake light switch for current , this should be live with the key OFF too . then operate the brake pedal and see if the switch is working , if so , next step is either the turn signal switch (if so equipped) or the plug connector on the harness at the back of the truck as the circuit goes directly from the output side of the brake light switch to the back of the truck and the cute little tubular connectors rust and corrode or unplug , killing
    the brakelights...

Check for good grounds on the taillight sockets too ~ I have a dedicated battery brush in my toolbox , it's painted red and cleans bulb sockets in a jiffy , then I smear breaing grease to prevent recurrance of corrosion .

DO NOT use silicone dialectric grease in bulb sockets ! .

I'm sure you allready re-painted the _inside_ of your taillight housing gloss white to make them brighter ? .

    I'm thinking it's a connector

I have separate tail and turn signals (dealer add on signals). Since the break lights work, I am betting it's a connection in the tail light wiring. Although, since the instrument lights are also not functioning, it might be at the dash switch. Wish me luck - and thanks for the tips on bearing grease and the gloss white paint!

Ha Jeffr What exact year truck are you working with ? I would suggest since the brake lights are working & the dome light is not start with checking power feeds at the light switch. I will assume the head lights are operating ? The light blue head light feed is on the end next is the black tail lights then the violet park lights. Directly across the head light should be the gray instrument light then the black dome light then last the orange stop light. The main light switch seems to be getting power because you said the brake lights are operating. Also is the Ammeter on the dash operating is tied into the light switch. If you find feeds missing try spinning the light switch knob while pulling it up & down slightly will sometimes get it working. Let us know what you find and we can help from there.

    Hi Steve O -

It's a 1953. I just got the truck a few weeks ago. All of the wiring looks to be original. Yes, the headlights and parking lights both work and the ammeter is working as well. Didn't get to it this past weekend but I will attempt to take a look under the dash at the switch this week. Thanks for the suggestions. Will let you know what I find.
