I have always herd that a 216 cant be reved up very high or it will throw a rod. My question is just how high can I rev it or should I even worry about it. When I drove it last in 4th with the gas pedle on the floor it was at about 3000 at the most.

If it runs O.K. , pedal to the metal sghould easily exceed 3,000 RPM's and 70 MPH .

If you keep it at or below 3,000 RPM's it'll be O.K. , over 3,400 and you risk snapping the connecting rod off right below the wrist pin , if the PO lugged it it is also possible tp spin the Babbited rod bearings out too so it's important to keep it full of CLEAN light weight oil ~ NOT 20W-50 ! .
