my 64 has had everything swapped from what appears to be a 74 c10. the sbc400 v8, front wheel disc brakes and suspension/crossmember, power steering, rear end, power booster and master cylinder. it all worked great. but since i need a new cab the truck sits. last time i went to move it around the power steering worked fine turning right(though not as easy as it used to be), but didnt work moving left. any ideas why that would be? or what i need to replace? the fluid is full. i tried going lock to lock several times to try and purge the system thinkin it was just air from sitting but nothin. and it doesnt leak any fluid. thanks in advance.

Sounds like you need a new steering box. You can get them at the local parts store and as long as you have a core to turn in they aren't too expensive.

Remove the high pressure and low pressure hoses from the gear box. Put a container below the box to catch any ps fluid. With the engine off, try turning the wheel, stop to stop. If there is blockage in the box, this operation should force it out. Additionally, put the front end on jack stands and do the same operation with the hoses securely attached to the pump.

Have a buddy turn the wheel for you, while you observe the steering travel. You may have an obstruction in the steering linkage, that is inhibiting free travel of the linkage. You may also purge the entire system, by draining the old ps fluid and replacing with new fluid. Never run the engine with the ps pump empty or low on fluid, whereas this will cook the pump.

I hope this information is helpful and your problem is quickly resolved.
