As you can see I am dedicating a lot of time of late in reassembling my truck. Questions a plenty and I appreciate the help. Which grommet does the oil temp gauge go through on the firewall? I want to put it through the 4 hole grommet but how do I fit the fittings through the hole or do I cut the grommet. If you can tell all the lines that go through the 4 hole grommet it would be appreciated.

Gallo, this is strictly from memory, because I haven't seen mine in that state for a while, but, IRCC, your throttle cable, choke cable, oil pressure tubing and water temperature connection feed through the 4 hole grommet. Guys, chime in if i'm out of line.

If you look closely I think you will see that the grommet has slits from the holes to the outer edge. You just remove the metal retainer ring, pull the grommet forward, snake the tube with fitting through and hook it up, then press the tube via the slit into the hole and replace the grommet and metal retainer ring.

Interestingly , the old Chevy parts places all tried to sell me the _wrong_ grommet ! I had to pick the correct one out of thier stock .

Here is a photo of my firewall. You can see the black metal retainer with the two shiny screws holding it to the firewall. I was lucky enough to have mine with the truck. If yours is lost you might look to see if CP has one or I am sure someone on this forum can find one for you. I will look in my barn later today and if I happen to have one I will send it.

    That's Because...

...They don't sell it with the retainer , that's a separate part .

I'm sure someone here will post up the P/N from Chevy Duty or Classic Parts etc. in short order .

Mine on my '54 goes in the grommet just to the lower left of the voltage regulator as you face the firewall. The grommet is a single hole and has the oil, coolant temperature & speedometer cable in it. CP offers a few different ones. The main wire harness firewall grommet is Part#42-105, The four hole firewall grommet is Part#25-215. I have seen on different trucks 2 four hole grommet's. Some have a single hole & a four hole grommet. Seems to be not a standard thing.
