I am trying to find out where exactly to attach the spring clip for the accelerator. This is the one that attaches to one of the oil pan bolts. Does it go directly under the carburator so the spring is vertical or do I place it at an angle to the front or rear.

As close to vertical as possible .

You still have the teardrop shaped spring perch ? wow that's cool .

This typ of detail question is usualy easily answered by reading your original owner's booklet and factory shop manual as there's good pictures all through both that have these details in the background...

    Nate,
I attached the clip close to vertical and it did not fully return the throttle to the idle position. I don't think I have the tear drop spring you referenced. I order a new spring from the repops. It appears I am going to have the spring horizon and the only place to attach it to looks like the drain fitting towards the rear of the engine. Can you offer a suggestion.

    Sticky/Draggy Throttle

The teardrop shaped part is the thing you mentioned that is attached to one of the oil pan bolts...

The linkage often is worn or bent , it must move easily in order to return to idle . if there are grooves worn in the rods where they pass through a hole in the bellcrank or carby arm etc. , use a thin flat washer to shim it out a little bit .

I think the throttle rods are now in reproduction or , you can have a welder add some weld to where they're badly worn then you can hand file them to perfectly round again .

The spring must be dead vertical to match the vertical push rod .

If you need a lot of spring pressure to make it return to idle , there's binding somewhere , you must be the on site detective and find it ~ the vertical rod must not touch the manifolds at any position etc.

clean everything under the hood so you can drape over the fender and get your face right down there next to the throttle linkage and bell crank ~ be carefull as the exhaust manifold is really hot and you can get seriously burned if you slip .

I assume you mean the July 2006 issue. I checked the archive in the attached link and the July issue did not feature anything on the 235. If I join will I be able to find you are talking about on line?

    Sorry

I just checked the site and they're still stuck on May! I guess if you can't find this issue at the magazine rack, you'll have to wait TWO MONTHS to see what I'm talking about.

Mine is attached vertically from a mounting lobe on the push rod mentioned straight down to the edge of where the oil pan and the block meet on that flange area, its just hooked to the flange. It works fine there. Seems like from the info above maybe there should be a mounting lobe on the bolt holding the pan to head to the block and thats not there
