    I removed my oilbath air filter, noticed the brillo pad type hair thats in the filter element
    this is coming out one hair at a time is it a concern and should it be all matted together?
    It looked like this filtering material was stuffed into the metal rim, not really a disposable type element but a metal housing with the brillo pad hairs enclosed, Are they supposed to be loose in there and is there any replacement suggestion Thanks for the help

    OilBath AF Service Notes

    Ken ;

    This is covered in older posts as is nearly every other question you're going to come up with , try the archives .

    The media inside the filter is horseheair and it's a very good filter but prolly filthy from lack of proper cleaning over the years . don't sweat the odd hair dropping out of it , just pick it out of the dirt cup and discard .

    If you use ATF instead of 10W oil in the dirt cup , this will make the element self - cleanng and for the next year or so you'll see quite a bit of dirt in the cup every time you check it .

    Simply dump it out , wipe out the dirt cup and the bottom of the upper element as it'll have fine dirt on it and re-fill with clean ATF , you can use the cheap .99 CENTS stuff from the Dollar Store .

    I hope this helps , keeping the oil bath air filter clean and serviced will make your Babbit Pounder run better , have better fuel economy and last longer too .
