I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, at some time, but I've scoured the forums for it, and can't come up with anything... I'd like to convert my front brakes to disc, but I'd like to retain my current 6 lug rims... I really like them. My question is, if I were to swap out the entire front end from a newer model Chevy, say anything '73 thru '87, is there a place I can obtain 6-lug rotors for those spindles? I have access to a good parts truck, that would have everything I need to swap over as far as front suspension, but it's got 5-lug rotors on it. I've seen the disc conversion kits here on CPA, and had to wonder, can you buy just the 6-lug rotors that are for that kit by themselves? I'd imagine that eventually you'd have to replace the rotors, especially if this is a daily driver, and they'd have to be available somewhere. Also, if these 6-lug rotors ARE available, will they work with stock Chevy spindles?
CPP has what you need. I would reommend that you spend the extra bucks to get the disc brake spindles. Their brake set ups are based on I do beleive 73-87 Chevy half tons.
They're right...I ran into the same situation with my '60 shortbed 1/2 ton..I wanted disc brakes with my original 6 lugs. Ordered everything from CPP, 2.5 inch drop spindles along with 6 lug disc rotors. It's been doing great for almost two years now but unfortunately CPP's customer service kinda sucked... #1 they didn't want to honor the advertised price #2 they sent me a bad front brake caliper (leaked) #3 they wanted to charge me to return the caliper. Other than that, my 6 lug front disc brakes work okay. Next I'll be putting disc on the rear. I've got some '82 cadillac rear calipers that are in great shape along with the brackets. Just need a few more parts and I'll be set.
THAT could never be said about Early Classic Ent. ( http://www.earlyclassic.com ) Their front end kit is VERY complete. I used their six lug rotor kit 4 years ago and it's still under there. The kit went in in less than 8 hours on my panel. Customer service is the best in any industry. I pestered them with pre-sales phone calls for months and they were always friendly and knowledgeable. I used 15 inch old-school chrome reverse rims. They JUST fit. To get better braking performance though, I'd recommend 16 or 17 inch AND slotted like Ralley Wheels have. The disk / rotor combo works better when there is air circulating around it. A 15 inch closed rim dosn't allow a lot of room for air to cool the brakes during hard panic stops. Val
