My 50gmc100 1/2ton has the stock bumper and brackets that "drop" the bumper under the license plate. I've seen several photos online that the bumpers are much closer to the bed. I want to move the license plate and "raise" my bumper but havn't found any rear bumper brackets without the 3.5 inch "drop". DOES ANYONE KNOW IF A DIFFERENT YEAR OR MODEL OR 3/4-1TON OR WHAT WOULD WORK? The parts suppliers havn't a clue. Now I don't either. Why don't you first try flipping the whole assembly over and see if it brings the bumper height up? You might then modify the brackets to move the bumper closer.
federale, thanks for the idea. I already tried that, but these stock brackets have such a "drop" that when I flipped them they won't fit under the bed unless I would get looonger bed bolts and raise the bed.
RE: rear bumper Brackets As they're simple strap steel , maybe you could take it to a welding shop and they could bend you up a set ? . If you find a truck / tractor body shop where they build beds this shuld be easy & cheap too . -Nate
RE: rear bumper Brackets Thanks Nate, It appears that's what's left to do. I'm not having any luck with parts houses. I looked at my original owners manual and saw the frame on the 3/4-1 ton is 10 inches wider than the 1/2 ton so the brackets are not interchangable. I was trying to find out what others have done.
RE: rear bumper Brackets Greg, HAH, were you listening online? I was just talking to my wife about that possibility because the front bumper holes are close, just the bumper is more curved. The frame is about 25" front and 46" rear and the longer "wing" on the front bracket goes out. Maybe if the longer "wing" was towards the center (flipped)? I'll have to see if the bracket will "move" enough to fit the bolts.
