No expert Thanks Mike- The deal with mono leafs came from Eaton Detroit Springs. They have an article that talks about all the pros and cons of screwing with your suspension. I guess you'd have to read it to get the real picture. I called Eaton today about 2" lowered springs. Bushings, U-bolts, springs and shipping = $495.00 total.
Look at it this way Zig, you're lowering kit is costing you $500 bucks, mine on the other hand is $3400 after all is said and done. Do you feel better about those springs now. It will be worth the money and it WILL be done right. Peace of mind is worth a lot to me.
Shock Absorbers Well ; You see : my truck stil has the original Knee Action lever shocks on it.... -Nate
OMG, that's Ugly! You've got your original knee action shocks Nate, that's ugly! Next thing you'll tell us is that you retro-fitted a vacuum assisted shifter on your truck too!!
That helps! Nate, I didn't want to say anything, but I was wondering why you'd keep bottoming out also. Driving over curbs? Didn't notice those parking blocks in the parking lot? Druggy sleeping it off in the street? One of those, "Who needs to saty on the road, there ain't nothing but desert around here anyway, and that looks like an old AD over there!" moments. (?) It's a tad more clear now.
Vacuum Shift If anyone finds a vacuum shift kit for a Muncie SM420 tranny , lemme know 'cause I've never seen one . One or two of those crusty old Knee Action boogers isn't even connected as the link broke off . I think maybe I got hosed on those brandy new springs as they're awfully soft to me. The DPO had taken a torch to the original , sacked leaf springs and it only had 1/4" clearance on the bump stops . I bottom out on the speed humps (not bumps) I had the City install on my block ~ I really don't think it should . When I'm off pavement in the desert (yes , I still find abandoned AD's)I drive very carefully as I don't want to change a flat in the sand My son came by last night and to-day I'm menancholy..... This too shall pass .
A friend of mine has a 54 chevy and he has also taken out some leaves on his front and rear. He has had good luck with it and no adverse problems. I was planning on doing the same on my 52, At least for a while until I can afford a IFS to go under it. It dropped his truck almost 2". I want to say thanks to everyone on the forum, this is a great place for information. Thanks Rick
