    That sounds like fun!

I'll bet i could win that competition! But more importantly, how did you score 2 classic rides in "classic rides" in one day:confused::eek::confused:

That Packard didn't happen to be previously owned by Veronica Lake, did it?

The " Roaring 20 " club had an outing to Steve Thomas (rich bicycle nut) house and I got invited , since I didn't think they'd want my '49 Chevy truck there , I drove my Mercedes hot rod and then asked if I could hitch a ride....

I was really hoping to ride in John's 1932 American Austin Bantam Roadster .

Being the go to guy when cars get broken ,has it rewards.... :D

Og course the whole day was filled with answering tech questions too but I learned a goodly bit at the same time .

    THE WAY IT SHOULD BE...

K, brit- besides being to fat, we have some other problems. At least this guy can put 'em to words...

GEORGE CARLIN (His wife recently died...)

Isn't it amazing that George Carlin - comedian of
the 70's and 80's - could write something so very
    eloquent...and so very appropriate.

    ** * ** A wonderful Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have
taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways,
but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have
less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger
houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but
less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more
knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more
problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too
recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get
too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read
too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our
values. W e talk too much, love too seldom, and hate
    too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We've added years to life not life to years. We've
been all the way to the moon and back, but have
trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.
We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've
done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We
write more, but learn less. We plan more, but
accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to
wait. We build more computers to hold more
information, to produce more copies than ever, but
    we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow
digestion, big men and small character, steep
profits and shallow relationships. These are the
days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier
houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick
trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one
night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do
everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a
time when there is much in the showroom window and
nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can
bring this letter to you, and a time when you can
choose either to share this insight, or to just hit
    delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones,
because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to
you in awe, because that little person soon will
grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you,
because that is the only treasure you can give with
your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and
your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and
an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep
    inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for
someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time
to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

    AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we
take, but by the moments that take our b reath away.

Just got back from lunch in the company cafeteria. Over in the corner Fox News was on a TV. They were covering an Anvil Shoot!

I haven't forgotten to show pics of the anvil shoot. I just need to get a new cable for the camera that I used so I can load them to the site. We stayed for 2 shoots. I was about 75 feet away on the second one and it nearly made my knees buckle when it went off. They used 1 pound of black powder and it went over 100 feet in the air. I will show the pics ASAP.

Well, I can't find a cable for this ##$$%% camera. The videos you linked to showed exactly like what I saw yesterday in Norris, Tenn. I was a lot closer to the anvil than they showed in the video so it was a lot harder for me to keep it in the camera lens anyway.
On the first shoot the anvil actually came back down and hit the stationary anvil.
They put a piece of metal between the anvils and you can see it in one of these photos. The middle photo is of my 12 year old and me cutting a log and the third is a border collie giving a flock of sheep a run for their money. Sorry about the quality of the photos. The better ones are on the other camera. It was really loud. We enjoyed the beautiful weather, the blackberry cobbler and the homemade ice cream. It was a great birthday party for our great nation.

Blackberry cobbler and homemade ice cream?

I've got tears in my eyes now, my firend! My granddad and I used to go blackberry picking every night during the summer and when we both filled up a 3# Folger's coffee can with blackberries, we'd go home and present them to my grandmother for her to work her magic! Cobblers, preserves, in my cereal in the mornings! Geez, it's a wonder I didn't go into a diabetic coma!

I hear that the museum in Norris makes a pretty mean mess of chicken and dumplin's too!

I've OD'ed on fried green tomatoes!

My crop of tomatoes have been ruined by 21 straight days of rain. I've got green tomatoes the size of softballs in my patch! Who would have thought that in Houston, Texas in July, we'd be praying for sunshine? Got 3 inches at the house this afternoon!

Collard greens? Bring 'em on! Put some hock in there, and i'm a happy camper!

Just remember- when the flood waters recede, the thing that is hardest hit is the human factor. All other living things walk or swim to safety. Two days after what we had here, only a line of dusty leaves show how bad things were. The trees, weeds, crops- seem to really have enjoyed everything. anyone who has been through the rain this year- really, aren't you in awe? If you were underwater, that is to bad. Talk with the one who sold you your property... 'cause they gotchyah.

I've been in the worst drought that SC had in recorded history, 1985. Then I moved to Kentucky to experience their worst in 1988. I was afraid to move to Kansas! They had a 200 year flood in 1992, then a 500 year flood in 1993! I figured we were done with big floods for 700 years... silly me.
I learned though. Rain is good if you live in the right place. If a place floods once, well... it will probably flood again. If a hurricane flattens a coastal town once, well...
    Is that a cold outlook?

    Real Outlook

    No ~ it's reality .

I'm a farm boy born & raised so I'll never _EVER_ live in a floodplain .

I have flood insurance on my place now and I live on a hill.....

I am always aghast at folks who buy houses in a wash or just below a flood control dam ~ I'm flabbergasted they're allowed to build in such places...

The trailers in Florida ~ wow .

I hope all here are always keeping thier wits about them and ready for the storm (said the idiot who lives in earthquake contry :D

We have had the wettest June on record, low tempertures, hail, snow in Scotland and they tell us we have global warming All I can say to you lot over the other side of the pond is Its all your fault, you have got to much spare gun powder over there and are destroying the ozone layer by shooting lump of iron into the stratosphere, note the video evidence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-kWyJx8kTs

I like the global warming because of cows methane theory:D

I think you are confusing us with middle eastern people that shoot guns randomly into the air.

    Recently saw this bumper sticker:
    Global Warming...It's the Sun Stupid

I never hear that as a factor for some reason. I guess we can't blame the sun on us.

From the mind of another Kanzan!

O.P., huh? I grew up in Prairie Village back in the 60s/70s. O.P. HATED me~ at least the law did. It was like they had an APB for me and my 'tang. I couldn't drive through that town without getting a little lovin' from the O.P. police department....:(

I'm not sure if I ever said welcome or not, so WELCOME to the best darn site you could imagine!
What kind of ride do you have? Pictures? ???

kg4mon~ Did we answer your question? I can't wait 'til you post your next question! Will it get this much mileage?

Anyway, the site I put here has all kinds of great info about donor axles. Not so much about ratio or numbers of lugs, but axle width and vehicles that have them... you can't beat it! (Thanks to the Stovebolt page) (I knew I saw this somewhere before!)

    http://www.teufert.net/other/rear end dimensions.htm
    (Evan also provided this one.)

Here's the other page that helps the decision. The ratio to RPM calculator from Aimless.
